Maritime Brokerage

About the Program:

Established with the approval of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) on April 10, 2013, the Maritime Brokerage Program providing education under the Maritime Vocational School with a staff of field experts, industry-experienced professionals, and high-level academics. Our academic staff works with dedication to maximize students’ professional skills and to raise them as professionals capable of competing on an international level.

Our faculty closely monitors the latest developments and innovations in Maritime Brokerage to keep course content updated. The training approach is designed to raise awareness and expertise in the field. The program currently consists of four full-time faculty members: one Assistant Professor, one Lecturer (PhD), and two Lecturers.

Our mission is to provide education and training at global quality standards within the framework of maritime customs and traditions, while internalizing Atatürk’s Principles and Reforms. We aim to raise individuals who possess the skills required by the global competitive environment, can work in multinational enterprises, are capable of teamwork, and are free-thinking, entrepreneurial, creative, and research-oriented. We strive to graduate contemporary, cultured, and humanitarian professionals with a strong sense of social responsibility and citizenship.

Our vision is to provide education, training, and research at world-class standards while creating a synergy between professional and academic education in the global competitive environment.

Goals:

Since its inception, the program has worked intensively to provide the qualified human resources needed by the maritime sector. In this context, it leads the educational field by opening programs in strategic professional branches required by both our country and the industry.

Educational Objectives

The primary objectives of the Maritime Brokerage program are:

  • To prepare students for roles in brokerage and shipping companies, ship agencies, marine insurance brokerage firms, international foreign trade companies, ports, and terminals.
  • To train qualified Maritime Brokers who are knowledgeable about the maritime transport market, capable of determining freight and vessel compatibility, performing voyage estimations, and drafting charter party agreements within the framework of maritime law.
  • To ensure students can communicate effectively in English and possess fundamental management and business knowledge.
  • To develop professionals who, in addition to Maritime Brokerage, possess knowledge of the logistics and economics sectors.

Who Can Apply?

Students who have graduated from a high school or equivalent institution are eligible for associate degree education at our university, provided they obtain sufficient scores as specified in the OSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center) guidelines, or through special placement regulations for vocational high school graduates.

Career Opportunities After Graduation:

Graduations of the Maritime Brokerage Program can take on a wide range of roles in brokerage firms, shipping companies, ship agencies, marine insurance firms, international foreign trade companies, ports, and terminals.

Vertical Transfer Options (DGS):

Upon successful completion of the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) conducted by OSYM, graduates may transfer to the following undergraduate (Bachelor’s) programs:

  • Maritime Business Management
  • Business Administration
  • Logistics Management
  • International Trade and Finance
  • International Trade and Management
  • International Trade and Logistics

Additionally, graduates can transfer to open-education (distance learning) undergraduate programs. Currently, three different universities offer distance learning transfers to programs such as Labor Economics and Industrial Relations, Economics, Public Administration, Finance, International Relations, Business Administration, Tourism Management, and International Trade and Logistics.
